Pearl Crescent

The Pearl Crescent Phyciodes tharos  # 4481 is our most common crescent and is present in the teaching garden.   Above it has orange-and-black markings.  Below the hindwing is pale yellow with brown reticulations.  The crescent spot can be surrounded by brown coloration in the center of the hindwing margin.  The host or larval plants are a variety of Asters.   They visit many flowers for nectar.
